Put your hand up if you’re finding this bout of lockdown intense. Can I put up both of my hands?! Maybe my legs too?
This round has been so challenging. Not only are we constantly assessing our physical safety, we are also facing uncertainty on a daily basis. While life is inherently uncertain, it doesn’t normally take centre stage. Having to hold these realities can be exhausting. Furthermore, we are balancing our personal, family and work needs, all the same time! Just reading that makes me feel battle weary. However, there is something we can do to support ourselves.
Check in with yourself
Kate Lamprecht Coaching
I know, when I hear a reassuring message like that, I need to listen. What have I been hearing? Check in with yourself. This is truly the best gift you can give yourself. In fact, It’s so important that I want to help you get started.
- Find a quiet(ish) space for a few minutes and take 5 deep breaths.
- Ask yourself the following:
- What am I felling in this moment? For example: Overwhelmed
- What do I need in this moment? For example: Peace
- What is something small I can do right now to meet that need? For example: Stand on the ground in bare feet , close my eyes and taken ten deep breaths.
What do your notice when you ask yourself these questions? What are you learning about yourself?
Asking these questions helps us to remain connected to ourselves. We can access our self-compassion. We can acknowledge life’s uncertainty and that we are doing our best. By supporting ourselves we can freely support those around us. Lockdown is damn hard. Yet, there are small things we can do to make it a little easier.
